Microsoft AI chief says it’s ‘dangerous’ to study AI consciousness

Google is rolling out a global expansion of AI Mode, the feature that enables complex Q&A directly in Search, the company announced Thursday. The update adds new agentic and personalization tools.

AI Mode is now accessible in English to 180 additional countries, up from the U.S., U.K., and India, with plans to include more languages and regions in the future.

The agentic capabilities allow users to book restaurant reservations and will eventually support local services and event tickets. Users can specify preferences such as party size, time, location, date, and cuisine, and AI Mode aggregates real-time options from multiple platforms.

The rollout targets Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. via the Labs experiment “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode.” Ultra costs $249.99 per month.

The feature also personalizes search results based on past searches and clicks, starting with dining. For example, if a user searches for a quick lunch, AI Mode can suggest Italian restaurants with outdoor seating if that matches previous behavior.

Users can control personalization through their Google Account, and a new “Share” button allows collaboration by sending responses to others.
