Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews
Meta is trialing a new coding interview format that allows candidates to use AI tools during the process. Internal messages, verified by 404 Media, reveal the company is recruiting internal employees to participate in mock interviews as part of efforts to refine the approach.
The pilot reflects the growing integration of AI assistants and agents into daily professional tasks, particularly in software development. By incorporating these tools into interviews, Meta aims to create an experience that mirrors the actual working environment of its engineers.
“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” read one internal post. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”
A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the testing, noting: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
