Jack Dorsey’s Bluetooth messaging app Bitchat now on App Store

Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter and Block, has released a new messaging app called Bitchat for iOS. Dorsey said he created the app’s core functionality over a weekend in early July, highlighting the quick turnaround from concept to prototype.

The app uses Bluetooth mesh networking, enabling communication between users within about 100 meters, even without mobile data or Wi-Fi. This decentralized system allows messages to hop between devices in range, expanding potential connectivity in dense user areas.

Bitchat’s minimalist interface skips the sign-up process entirely, taking users directly to a chat box where they can see messages from nearby devices and set or change their display name at will. This approach keeps the experience streamlined and privacy-friendly.

Fake versions have appeared on Google Play. While Dorsey hasn’t commented directly, he reposted a user’s message on X warning that no official Android version exists yet.
