Apple Unveils iPhone Air: The Thinnest iPhone Ever at 5.6mm
At its September 9 keynote, Apple unveiled the iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone in history at just 5.6mm. CEO Tim Cook called the device the “biggest leap ever for iPhone,” representing the first new line since the iPhone X in 2017. The model, starting at $999, is positioned between the standard iPhone 17 and the Pro, and arrives alongside the full iPhone 17 family.
The latest iPhones are built on the A19 Pro processor, paired with Apple’s new N1 wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Pro versions introduce a vapor chamber cooling system and all models feature the Liquid Glass design on iOS 26.
Apple also refreshed its wearables with the Watch Series 11, now supporting 5G and hypertension detection, and the Ultra 3, which gains satellite communication. The AirPods Pro 3 add health and fitness sensors, more workout modes, enhanced noise cancellation, and live translation at a $249 price point.
AI updates were incremental, with Apple Intelligence adding live translation. Analysts highlight that while Apple excels in hardware design, its AI roadmap may not fully mature until the iPhone turns 20 in 2027.
